Well, this is a happy and sad post all at the same time:). Due to the new law that went into effect in recent months regarding items made for children 12 and under...I decided it was time to shift my energy in a different direction. It really saddens me so much to not be able to work right now on girls clothing because that has been my main focus as far as sewing goes for the last 13 years...but since there is so much confusion regarding what is allowed and not allowed, I just thought I would focus on something fresh and different for a change and maybe one of these days the lines will be more clearly defined with the new law and hopefully someday I will get to revist sewing for little girls again...almost makes me want to cry:(. So anyways, I have to have some kind of sewing to keep me busy since I love it so much and so now I am going to be focusing on doing some things that are geared for juniors and ladies. I am really excited to try this new path, though stepping out into the unknown is always a little scary:). So stop by my Etsy shop to see what I am up to if you would like:)...and I am always happy to hear from people just to see what you think:).

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to travel with my husband to Nashville to a work related conference. We stayed downtown and it was only for a couple of days, but one night we had walked around the historic Ryman Auditorium and out the stage door came a few country music singers/songwriters and I was so shocked..LOL. I grew up listening to country music all my life and it was really exciting to meet some artists in person. We met John Rich, Billy Dean, and Keith Anderson...all three were extremely nice and I was so glad I had the opportunity to have my picture made with them. By the way, please excuse the terrible quality of the pic, it was taken with my husband's camera phone:).

A new direction...I have listed a couple new items in the past week or so that I have really enjoying sewing. I like to work with mix and match fabrics that you wouldn't normally put together, but I like them to have a common colorway. I call them Salmagundi dresses because they are just a miscellaneous assortment of everything, fabric, color, and hand embroidery. The first one Winter Roses, has a shabby floral theme in beautifl tones for the Holidays and the second one Happy Day is currently listed on Ebay. I really loved this one because it is all about bright colors and fun details:).

Boutique Traditions:)

Quite a while has passed since my last post...when basketball season begins around here, I rarely have a night at home. I thought I would post today about a launch I am participating in, called Boutique Traditions.

It is a launch that we do only a few times a year where the clothing is classic and traditional. Today our launch items were designed with Easter in mind. Mine is callled Watercolor Roses and it features pintucks and rhumba ruffles all in a soft, muted, rose print. On another subject, one of the things I decided I wanted to tackle this year was to get out all of my pictures that I had taken of my family and make them easily accessible in some way, shape or form. I haven't decided just yet how I want to do this, but I knew the first thing I had to do was get out the pictures and organize them. So right after Christmas, I started sifting through them and I am sorting them by year and then narrowing that down by months. Talk about exhausting...it is a job. I am nearly done with them and then I can move on to figure out what my next phase will be...how to display them. I will see how much progress I make by this time next month:). It is really exciting, because my pictures have been stored in boxes for years and I never look at them because they are too much trouble to get out...I am trying my best to eliminate that problem:).

I finished up another little set this weekend for Ivylane's "Hoods Up" launch. It is called Autumn Bleu was created from a really sweet combination of soft blue and black...so sweet for this fall....perfectly dressy and perfectly casual:). On a side note, I am so enjoying the mums this time of year...I love all the different vibrant colors they are available in. They are a sure sign that fall is here:).

Yesterday Ivylane began their launch with designs that incorporated hoods, titled Hoods Up. My contribution was two One of a Kind sets with a color scheme that would work well for Christmas, but also be appropriate for after the Holidays since they both have an eclectic combination of colors and prints. I am in the process of finishing up a third set in a baby blue and black combination that I hope to list over the weekend.

7 Facts about Me...

1. I put up my Christmas tree every year the day following Halloween. People around here laugh about that because they think it is too early, but honestly I do it because a lot of work goes into putting up a tree and decorating my house and I want to enjoy it for as long as possible...putting it up after Halloween gives me two full months to enjoy the Christmas at home atmosphere, and I love that. Then, it all gets put away promptly on December 26th.:)

2. I am the slowest driver..LOL. I drive the speed limit or less, my husband fusses and me when I drive because I just creep along. I am that slow driver that most people curse on the road because they are just dragging around..LOL:). !

3. My favorite meal to eat is Honey Teriyaki Salmon with a side of rice and vegetables and sweet tea to drink...I love it, could eat it every single day:)..YUM!

4. I wear socks ALL of the time(unless of course I am wearing flip flops or sandals, I actually can't stand to be barefoot. I have to have something on my feet before they touch the floor. I even wear socks when I sleep because I feel weird without them on..LOL:).

5. I only wear one kind of tennis shoe, because the are the most comfortable that I have ever found...Saucony. That is the only kind I will buy.

6. I am a routine and neat freak, actually a little obsessive compulsive about it. I get up and carry out my day in a certain routine, from the way I clean my house to the manner in which I work and if I get thrown out of my routine, it gives me anxiety! Everything has to be put in a certain place or I can't function properly.

7. I tend to overuse smiley faces when I type online:)...It is a habit that I have since I can't smile in person and I try to make up for it with cyber smile:):):).

It has been quite a few days since my last post with so much going on here at home. So I thought today I would share my latest listing for the upcoming Holidays. It is titled Celebrations. I enjoy these colors and textures so much...the sparkle makes it so much fun for the Holidays:). I don't normally do many sets with formal fabrics, but my little one really loved the gold sparkle so she and I kind of worked together to come up with something she liked and would enjoy wearing for Christmas:).

On a side note:), I just recently joined a wonderful group of ladies on Ebay called Ivylane. The are brilliantly talented and do such a wonderful job with their creativeness and construction:).

We Remember...

I stayed up late last night laying in bed watching a couple of shows that documented the tragedy on 9/11...one titled The Falling Man. I remember it all like it was yesterday. I remember watching TV that morning with the breaking news and being horrified...I remember.

May God bring peace to all those left behind to mourn.

Halloween?:)

I know it seems a bit early, but I am usually always the last person around to list Halloween items, so I tried to get a jump start on it this year:). I finished up these Halloween sets and got them up Tuesday after a long day of completing small tasks and item photography.

Once I was done, I still had a few yards of Halloween fabric left over and I used it to cut out several little skirts...I am mostly done with those too, I have only three more to complete and hope to get them listed by next week.

Chez Moi Elephants

This morning I listed my most favorite little quilt so far. It was created from the Chez Moi collection and the colors are just so lively and fun. I decided to do this one in a whimsical elephant theme because the colors and prints of the collection just made me think it would go nicely with something of that nature. I made this particular quilt with a matching onesie/tee for a PCG launch that I was invited by a friend to participate in on Ebay. She took the ever so lovely pictures of her little doll baby and sent them to me to use in my auction....she is such a little cutie pie:)! Thanks again Eileen:)!

If you haven't used any of the fabrics from the Chez Moi collection, they are simply beautiful...with gorgeous colors:).

Saturday's Market and Chez Moi:)

School got started and we now have the first full week under our belt:). The girls were so glad to get back to see all their friends, the only thing that could be better in my neck of the woods is some cooler temperatures. This is the third straight week of brutal heat in the 100's. The week went by so quickly and we spent Thursday afternoon at the Fair and the girls enjoyed themselves so much...well, up until Molly got a little queasy from riding one of the rides and she and I took a little time to rest so she could get to feeling better:).

A few weeks ago I placed a fabric order and got in some of the sweet Flea Market Fancy fabrics and worked with them some this past week. The prints are so sweet and so vintage looking and I think the colors will work perfectly for fall. I listed it Friday along with two more pincushions that I created out of the Chez Moi collection(boy that is some LOVELY fabric:))...Chez Moi and Chez Moi Too. I will definitely be using more of that fabric in other projects:). It is probably my most favorite that I have worked with in a long time, the colors and prints are so lively and bold:).

Ollie the Octopus

I recently decided to do something a little different for a baby quilt in colors that you wouldn't normally put together. The idea I had in mind was to do an octopus themed quilt and use floral feedsack prints. I got it finished and listed finally last week:). I do really like the colors together, they are different, but I do really like them.

I really enjoyed working on this one, but the stippling alone took me forever to do (that was an all day project for me...whew). Maybe one of these days I will be lucky enough to own a long arm quilting machine for bigger projects, but for the time being I will have to stick to my trusty sewing machine and free motion foot:).

Apricot Elephants and Summer Birds:)

Since summer is about to come to an end for my two girls, and it is almost time for them to go back to school, I am trying to get back in my normal routine as well. They go back Monday and so that doesn't leave much time for them to sleep in and go swimming:). I did manage to get a few things made in the last few days in an attempt to get back to my schedule. I finished and listed this sweet, little Apricot Elephant set that I made using some of Heather Bailey's Freshcut and April Cornell's Poetry. I thought the two prints went together nicely and the colors made it perfect for transitional wear.

I also finished up and listed a new pincushion called Summer Birds that I made using the pretty birdy fabric from the Summer in the City collection. I am hoping to get a couple more finished up in the next few days and then I have a stack of khaki slacks to hem for my nephew by this weekend since this year our district decided to change over to a uniform dress policy for the students. Molly and Morgan haven't complained too much about it...but come Monday, we'll see:).

By the way:), I noticed a few of you that have stopped by signed up for my mailing list and I just wanted to say thank you:)...I really appreciate that and I am so grateful for your interest:).

Baby Quilts Completed:)

I did finally finish the two strip quilts that I posted about a few days ago. I did end up favoring the one with the appliqued inset...I guess because it is just different and the applique added a little interest, plus the applique design is birds, and lately I am loving anything with a birdy theme...lol:).

I machine quilted both of them with my walking foot in a straight stitch pattern on the strips and when I got ready to finish the quilts by adding the binding, I used the double fold method with mitered corners and found Heather Bailey's
instructions to be very helpful:). I so enjoyed the process of making both of these, now I will have to figure out what my next quilt project will be:).

Here is a little set made from some fabrics that I just love. They are from the Amy Butler Lotus collection, there might be one or two mixed in there from her Belle collection, but the majority is from the Lotus line. I really love her prints and combination of colors, I love earthtones so that might be why I tend to enjoy them so much.

I am loving owls here lately too. I can remember when I was little how owls were largely used for home decorating and it is so funny how things like that find their way back around. I think I would even like to try to do some kind of owl themed baby quilt if I could just get around to it:)

This morning I got a sweet little email from a customer and she shared some pictures with me of her little sweetheart in a pillowcase set that she purchased from me a few weeks ago. I thought I would share them here too. She is such a precious little blonde and it makes me miss my girls being little bitty...they grow up way too fast:).

Easy Peasy Peach Cobbler

I thought I would share this on here because it is so good and super easy to make. Something my dad and my 11 year old daughter love to eat:). The recipe is as follows...

Easy Peasy Peach Cobbler

1 stick of butter

1 cup of sugar

1 cup of flour

1 cup of milk

1 large can of sliced peaches

Melt stick of butter in oven in 9 x 13 pan. In a bowl, blend sugar and flour together and add milk and stir firmly with a whisk until smooth. Pour the mixture into the pan over the melted butter and then pour the can of peaches on top. Bake for approximately an hour or so at 350 degrees or until crust is a golden brown. YUM YUM!

Cobblers are delicious desserts here in the south, and with my favorite being blackberry cobbler, I am eventually going to try this recipe substituting the peaches for blackberries, I'll let you know how it turns out:).

Update:) - I did make it with fresh blackberries and it is wonderful. When using fresh fruit, you may need to add a cup or so of sugar to your fresh fruit and boil it on the stove for about 15 minutes then carry on with the recipe directions as stated above:)...it is really delicious:).

My Weekend Project

This weekend I worked on a little strip quilt project, well actually it turned into two strip quilt projects because I had soooo many strips that it wound up being almost enough for two. I pieced together the strips for the first quilt top and then once I was finished with it, I started piecing the second one and thought I would try to randomly insert an appliqued panel into it just to make it interesting since I was shy about three strips. Well, guess what my choice of applique was? Once again, some birds:). I got them all fused onto the panel, so once I get her appliqued and all sewn together, I will try to share a picture:).

I am really fond of the colors that I used for it...kind of shabby pinks, cranberry tones, and greens. It has been a good long while since I have quilted much of anything, probably the last time was for a friend that had a baby about 5 years ago and I so enjoyed it this weekend. Once I started, it was hard to pull myself away from it because I wanted to get as much done on them as I could. I have been browsing quilting blogs here lately and have ran across some really lovely blogs, you can find a bunch of the ones I saved over to the left. I could sit and read about anything sewing related for hours if I could, but to read about quilting, Oh...it is pure joy:). The biggest quilts I have ever made have been baby quilts, I haven't dove into a large quilt just yet, but it has always been something I would love to do. I guess I mainly stick with baby quilts because they are much more easy for me to maneuver under the machine as I am quilting the layers of batting and all under my sewing machine with the free motion foot or walking foot. I have found a lady that lives pretty close that does machine quilting for pieced quilt tops for a very reasonable price, so I guess that gives me no excuse to refrain from those larger quilt tops from now on:). One of these days:).

Summer Softball...

Though we love to watch the girls, what a relief to see softball come to an end this season. With the heat and humidity, it will be so nice to spend some evenings at home in the comfort of the cool air conditioning. Both of my girls love to play...they beg their dad every day to go out and practice. He helped coach both of their teams this year...so he will enjoy the freed up four nights a week as well as I.

We are so proud of both of them, Molly is still in the coach pitch league and though she is little, she is a great fielder...not afraid of the ball at all... she is fast, and a really consistent batter...hmm, maybe because her dad is pitching...lol:).

Morgan is in the oldest league and a super fielder as well. With it being fast pitch, she does tend to be a little afraid when she is at bat, but she does so well:).

Hand Stitching...

It is something I enjoy doing in order to relax. I love to sit and watch TV and embroider. In the evening, before I get ready for bed...I like to unwind this way. My hands give me fits sometimes after I do quite a bit of embroidery. It makes my wrists ache from holding the hoop... so I take it in spurts, every now and then I get something ready to embroider and then let my wrists rest, and then I am at it again. I just finished up two little hand stitched sets working with some feedsack prints that I thought meshed so nicely together.

My favorite of the two is the elephant...simply because it is a little off the wall for a girl theme in odd colors and such, I wouldn't mind having it on a shirt for myself:).

I also just finished up a little seahorse set that I thought turned out really sweet, the colors are so bright and summery. Applique is another thing I enjoy...but again in spurts, it also makes my wrists ache from maneuvering what I am appliqueing under the machine...being so careful, and so precise....and concentrating so HARD...LOL:).

This dress is also made from that lovely Summer in the City collection I mentioned before, such zesty colors!

At it again with my bird adoration. What is better than appliqueing a bird onto fabric? Finding beautiful fabric with a bird already on it:). When I got this fabric, I was on cloud nine. It has such a lovely color combination with such a beautiful print...a little bit modern and a little bit vintage.

Pincushion Therapy...

Now, don't get me wrong...I love to sew clothing for little girls. It has been a love of mine since my girls were babies, but every once in a while I like to get a break from the monotony, so I indulge myself in pincushions. About a year and a half ago, I was sitting in my sewing room and fumbling with my little bitty, red tomato pincushion digging out the needles that were buried up in it and thinking to myself..."Man, I wished I could find a bigger pincushion to hold all of this stuff so it isn't so crammed on here"...then had an idea pop into my head..."Why don't I just try making one!" That was the start of my little endeavour:). So I got after it...the first couple were a trail and error kind of project to see just what was the best way to put this idea together...and by the time I had gotten to the third, I had my pattern for the pincushion drafted out and the kinks ironed out of my steps for my project. It has been a love affair since...LOL:).

They are bigger than your average pincushion, measuring about 7 inches across and 3 1/2 inches high...no more jumbled up pins, needles, and safety pins:).

I had just finished up a pincushion the other day and finally got around to listing it and actually wasn't sure what people would think about it(I always worry about my combination of fabrics in these because sometimes my fabric combos are, well...a little wild and crazy), but that is why I love them so! Anyways, I was so pleasantly surprised that it did sell. A sweet lady purchased it for a friend as a gift, that is always such a nice surprise...that someone likes it so well, they want to share it with someone else:). I have had the opportunity to sell them to some very nice people in the past year and a half, it has been such a blessing!:)

I got an email this morning from a sweet customer wanting me to do one in a cat theme, she loves cats! So...this should be interesting:)...somewhat of a little challenge for me, so we will see how that goes:).

For some reason I have been enamoured with those sweet, little, fashionable birds this spring and summer. They seem to be a hot trend this season and I have really enjoyed putting my creativity to work with them...

I have fiddled with them on quite a few little sets here lately and everytime I finish something up and my husband gets a glimpse of it, he asks..."Another bird?":)

Well, welcome. I am finally getting around to doing something that I have intended to do for months now...start this blog. Time gets away from me sometimes with so much going on all the time so this will be my little relaxing spot to unwind at when time allows.
